SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Wide receiver Curtis Samuel and cornerback Corn Elder missed Friday's training camp practice with injuries that could keep them out longer than just one day.

Samuel, the Panthers' second-round pick, has a hamstring strain. He felt tightness in his hamstring after Thursday's practice, and the team sent him to Charlotte to have it further evaluated by a doctor. It's unclear when Samuel will return to practice.

Elder, Carolina's fifth-round pick, is more week-to-week than day-to-day. He made it through the Panthers' first camp practice Wednesday, but after complaining of soreness in his right knee, an MRI revealed a patella stress fracture. On Friday, he worked on the side with a brace on his knee.

With Elder and Captain Munnerlyn (hamstring) both out, undrafted rookie Cole Luke split nickel back reps with veteran Colin Jones.
